I am just another PhD student at Instituto Superior Técnico, who is mainly interested (up to now) in exploring the collective effects in cold atoms, both theoretic and experimentally. Cold atoms are ubiquitous in many areas of physics, such as atomic and condensed matter physics and optics. In the last few years, the different experiments performed in magneto-optical trapping (MOT) of atoms have provided a wide stage to explore very outstanding phenomena, such as Bose-Einstein condensation, collective atomic recoil lasing, coherent atomic states (atom laser), quantum entanglement, atomic clocks and high-sensitivity interferometers. I think it is worthy to spend some time addressing these (still hot!) cold atoms, don’t you?
